USAHA +DOA +TAWAKKAL..InsyaaAllah..mudah2n segala ilmu kita diberkati dan dipermudahkan dalam menjawab exam dunia.. At the same time, do'nt forget our IMTIHAN AKHIRAT..dats is our ultimate goal and the Greatest examination ever =)By the way, focusing on this exam week,Having efficient study techniques are essential to your success in the academic portion. To help you in that area, here are some suggested study tips.
1. The environment you study in will help determine how much you get out of each
study session. Your study area should:
a. be quiet;
b. have good lighting;
c. be comfortable (but not too comfortable) and well ventilated; and
d. have all of the tools you will need (pencil, paper, word processor, highlighters,
etc.)
2. Eliminate as many distractions as possible. You need to be able to give your
undivided attention to the material.
a. Don’t listen to the TV, radio or stereo while studying. It will split your attention
and make your study time less efficient.
b. Take the phone of the hook or turn the ringer off. Let the answering machine pick
up the calls.
c. Come to an agreement with the spouse and kids that this is your time to study and
that you should not be disturbed unless it is an dire emergency.
d. If the family does not cooperate, consider studying at the public library or early in
the morning when no one is up.
3. Pick a consistent time to study. Buy studying at the same time everyday, your mindbecomes accustomed to being ready to go when you sit down to start.
4. Budget your time. Study a little each day. Cramming just before a test does not
work. It might get you through a test, but the material will be soon forgotten which,
in this business, means poorer patient care. Studies have shown that studying a little
each day and reviewing material often results in longer retention of the material.
Review consistently and periodically.
5. Study with a pencil and highlighter.
a. Underline or highlight important ideas, but don’t go overboard. Highlighting
90% of a chapter will not make the really important concepts stand out.
b. Outline the material.
c. Write down questions on material you do not understand or want further
information on. Ask them in class.
6. Reading tips:
a. Read the learning objectives before reading the chapter. Keep these in mind
while reading. These are the things you are expected to have MASTERED by the
end of the chapter.
b. Read the case study before starting. Then as you read the chapter, consider how
the material relates to the case study. Review the case study at the end of
the reading.
c. Before carefully reading the chapter, survey the material you are going to read by
scanning the paragraph headings and major topics. This gives you and overview
of the material.
d. Read the chapter through once rapidly. Don’t highlight or take notes at this point.
Just try to get a good feeling for important concepts discussed in the reading.
e. Read the chapter a second time. Highlight or take notes this time. Pay particular
attention to:
1. key words or phrases such as: “The key (concept, idea, to handling…, etc)
is…..”
2. indications
3. contraindications
4. emergency care
5. lists of things
6. words in bold print.
7. words in italics.
8. special circumstances.
9. definitions of words
f. Write down questions as they occur to you while reading. Ask the questions in
class. Be persistent in getting an answer that makes sense to you. The only stupid
question is the one not asked.
g. Study the figures and tables. There is good information there that is not in the
reading.
h. Finally, check your understanding by writing out the answers to the review
questions at the end of the chapter.
7. Other activities you can do to cement the material in your mind are:
a. Make up multiple choice questions as if you were making up a test.(do past year questions also help)
c. Make up flash cards.
d. Form a study group and quiz each other. (a.k.a study berjemaah)
8. Self evaluation is an important part of any study routine. It will point out the strong
and weak areas in your understanding. It is better to identify weak areas before you
get to a real test. Some suggestions:
a. Get the workbook that goes with the book. Read the chapter and then do the
workbook sheets as a self evaluation quiz.
b. Explain concepts and procedures to someone unfamiliar with the material.
Encourage questions from these people. If you cannot clearly explain it to them,
then you probably don’t know it as well as you should.
c. Purchase a book of practice test questions.
d. Do the practice tests on the web site.
9. Tips for learning the practical skills.
a. Take part in a practical exams as assistants or patients. This is an outstanding
way to get a feeling for how the practical exam will run and to see how other
people do the skills. It will make you more relaxed when your practical exam
comes around.
b. Get your hands on all equipment. Don’t stand back and let other people work
with it. The only way to learn how to use something is to actually use it.
c. Practice the skills as if you were at a real scene. Don’t verbalize things you
would do. Actually do them. When trying to physically do something, you may
find there are steps you aren’t sure how to do. Also, you are more apt to
remember how to do something if you have physically done it rather than just
talked about it.
d. Remember that in most cases you will be using the equipment in the field under
less than ideal circumstances (in cramped spaces, in the dark, in rain or snow,
etc.) You need to be so familiar with the equipment that you can use it under
these conditions without delay. The only way to do that is practice, practice,
practice!!!!
e. Try to imagine situations where you would use the skills you are learning and try
to do the skills under those circumstances.
10. Miscellaneous comments:
a. Ask questions!!! The only stupid question is the one not asked.
b. There are additional learning materials available to you resources – audio tapes,
video tapes, etc.. Take advantage of these.
